(birzanto@cbn.net.id) CommentsThe ASEAN Secondary and Pre-University Scholarships The Asean Scholarships aim to provide the young people of Asean with opportunities to develop their potential and training them in the skills that will enable them to step confidently into the new millennium. The ASEAN Secondary and Pre-University Scholarships lead to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education 'Ordinary' (GCE 'O') Level and 'Advanced' (GCE 'A') Level certificates. Outstanding students are able to secure further scholarships to study in the local or foreign universities after they have completed the GCE 'A' Level Examinations. ASEAN Secondary Scholarships ASEAN Pre-University Scholarships S$2,200 (Secondary), S$2,400 (Pre-University) allowance per annum with accommodation S$200 settling-in allowance Transport allowance to Singapore and back to home country upon completion of course Waiver of school fees Waiver of GCE 'O'/GCE 'A' Level examination fees Medical benefits 24-hour accident and insurance coverage. Students who are ASEAN nationals (except Singaporean) can apply for the scholarships For the SECONDARY ONE Scholarships, applicants must be in Standard 6 or Form 1 with consistently excellent school results. For the SECONDARY THREE Scholarships, applicants must be in Form 3 (or equivalent) with consistently excellent school results For the PRE-UNIVERSITY Scholarships, applicants must have obtained at least 3 distinctions in the GCE 'O' Level/SPM examinations. These must include distinctions in Mathematics and a Science subject, with at least a Grade 3 in English Language. Students in Singapore Schools are not eligible to apply. 2. What is the application process like? Shortlisted applicants have to go through selection tests and an interview. 6. Can I choose the junior college/school I'm posted to for study? The choice of the junior college/school scholars are posted to will be decided by the Ministry of Education. 7. If I have studied another language in my home country and it is not offered in Singapore, do I still have to take up a second language? You might not have to offer a second language in this case. However, it is subject to approval based on the circumstances. 8. Where can I get more information about school/junior college education and the syllabuses? As often as you like at your own cost. However, during the school term, you will need the prior approval of the principal of the school/junior college that you are in.
