There are said to be 2,000 refugees in Acheh. They are those who ran away from their villages and made alive to other districts. Many others are taking refuge in this area as well.
I visited a refuge camp in northern Acheh. The people had walked approximately 30 kilometers along mountain trails in fear of any TNI attack. A woman who had taken refuge was lying down inanimately. Her family was watching over anxiously. “My mother hasn’t been able to move for the past few days. She has a terrible backache but we don’t have any medicine.” The daughter said without looking up.
