Praying for freedom & a better nation —— It is little known that Acheh Sumatra was the first region in Indonesia to accept the Islamic culture.

There are clear cultural distinctions between Medan in Sumatra Island and Banda Acheh in Acheh. For example, Acheh females always wear a scarf, showing that the Islamic culture has become a part of their lives.

I became acquainted with mentioned, “We Achehs are Muslims. However, the Indonesian government refers to call us as the Islamic fundamentalists. That’s why the international society doesn’t support the independence of Acheh.”

Today, Islamic nations are unavoidably starting to hold the image of evil terrorists. When I went to Nicaragua in Central America during the 80’s, I saw many civilians suffering from economic sanction by the United States. America was called the evil there, but after crossing the boarder I was in another world. A border is a line drawn in order to protect the profit of a country. But there did not exist any line nor religion before the human species emerged. Despite the continuing prosperity of human beings, it is difficult to hold hope in the future, for we still haven’t learned from the past.
