Dr. Hasan di Tiro
talked about the
history of Acheh: where it has to be and what still
needs to be done before respect for human dignity and
individual freedom will ever have a chance in his
homeland. The documents he brought with him and
discussed, as well as his insights about them and the
present situation faced by Acheh were presented in a
dynamic and insightful manner. He shared his
knowledge and believes generously and with sincerity.
The
impression he made was one of
an unmistakably strong character who has dedicated
his life to fighting for freedom against all odds —
with little regard for the deadly peril his stance
would place him in should he fall into the hands of
Indonesia. Physically, his has a level of energy and
spirit that few men or women in their seventies could
ever begin to approach.
