PRESS STATEMENT

Microchip & the Declaration for War

Jan 26, 2002 (ASNLF) —— The War Commander of ASNLF/GAM declares that: ASNLF/GAM has no desire to engage Indonesian Governor General, Abdullah Puteh, in polemics concerning his invitation letter to the late Teungku Abdullah Syafi'ië and about the microchip found smuggled in the envelope. As to whom and when we would show the proof is up to us and none of Abdullah Puteh’s business. He is free to produce any other letter as he pleases and show it to the press and claim: "this is the letter that did not arrive".

'AGAM is always ready to face any eventualities. Our suggestion to the Indonesian government is that if they want to continue waging war they should issue a DECLARATION OF WAR and let’s make war in accordance with the International Convention.'

"Dialogue", it is no more than an effort to trap us for elimination.

s we had mentioned previously, the tracking technology using microchips has today become very ordinary. Such devices are used very often in the civilian sectors. In the wildlife preservation work, for example, as we often see on TV, such microchips are attached on animals so their movements can be tracked for study. The statement issued by a high Indonesian military officer saying that one needed a very sophisticated device for it is not true and can be regarded as a crude attempt to cover-up the truth by pretending to be stupid. According to information we received, in Papua too people have been receiving parcels with "strange things" in it.

We welcome the statement of Ryacudu saying that the war in Acheh will continue. AGAM is always ready to face any eventualities. Our suggestion to the Indonesian government is that if they want to continue waging war they should issue a DECLARATION OF WAR and let’s make war in accordance with the International Convention on Wars that Indonesia has ratified.

In ASNLF/GAM, the highest leadership of ASNLF makes the decisions on dialogues or to go to war. AGAM’S Commander-in-Chief is only concerned with the military and war matters. Dialogues are the purview of our diplomats. We in ASNLF/GAM have been able to see more clearly now what the Indonesian government means by "dialogue", it is no more than an effort to trap us for elimination. Before this role being acted by Abdullah Puteh by sending a letter laden with a hidden microchip to the late Teungku Andullah Syafi’ie, the same had been performed by Waki Him, who surrendered Tjut Nyak Dhiën to the Dutch, although the means used was different then.

We wish to inform the people of Acheh, that KODAM is in fact already established in Acheh, in the form of the KOLAKOPS headed by Djali Jusuf. KODAM is just a new name for KOLAKOPS, while its character and brutality are guaranteed to be the same, in fact even the commander of KODAM will be the same as that of KOLAKOPS: Djali Jusuf. We urge the TNI/POLRI not to continue trying to fool the Achenese people with empty sloganeering such as: "We have come to Acheh to give the feeling of security to the people of Acheh, not to kill them". The Achenese people can no longer be fooled, because they have been tricked so many times already and they have seen many proofs. Who carried out the killings, forced disappearances, arsons, rapes during the DOM period? Who made dozens of mass graves, and carried out massacres after massacres, starting from the Idi Cut massacre to those of, Aluë Niréh, KKA Junction, Tgk. Bantaqiah, Central Acheh, Bumi Flora, the execution of the humanitarian volunteers of RATA and others? The people know the answer very well, so they can no longer be fooled.

We deplore the statement made by a member of the Achenese Legislative Assembly, saying that the late Teungku Abdullah Syafi'ië had made many mistakes in his life. Does this man think maybe that Tgk. Abdullah Syafi'ië had made a mistake by becoming the Commander-in-Chief of AGAM and had chosen "the wrong path" in his life? Is struggling to expel colonialists from your country a wrong path? Maybe in his brains, choosing a carrier as a deputy in an illegitimate assembly, because it was not formed through an election, were a good and noble way of life. We would like to ask the concerned to clarify through the mass media what mistakes had the late Tgk. Lah is supposed to have made.

Teungku Sofyan Dawod, an ASNLF military spokesman/Tiro Central Command, speaks on behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of AGAM.
