How has it happened?:
Sweeping operation along
highway from Idi Cut and Idi Rayeuk (8 km) by RI joint forces.
The forces have committed atrocity on civilian during their
operation such as money extortion, brutality, looting, and
unlawful detention of people. They randomly accused people as
GAM activists. Among the victims were:

How has it
happened?: The joint forces
have been dropped around Paloh Punti and sorrounded the
village to continue the attack they have perpetrated days ago.
At about 1000 hours the forces enpowered by around 1000
personnel started searching houses. In this raid, at least 9
houses were burned down and their owners were prevented from
salvaging foodstuff, valuables, clothes, etc. They escaped
only with clothes they were wearing.

Post midnight raid
to Blang Mirah vlg. Entered the village the Indonesian troops
opened fire towards the roofs of many houses. Awaken by gun
noise and shocked and thought there was a big war, many
villagers tried to run for safety, in which attempt several of
them have become gunshot victims. A littlel boy called by his
nick name, Buyung (7), was shot dead. Another man, Tgk.
Ibrahim, was also shot dead in the dark of the night. Many
others have been wounded. All victims were transported to
Police HQs in Meulaboh.

but the Brimob kept asking for some money. The two did not

torture them very badly. The victims suffered broken leg bone
and ribs, as well as swollen face.

How has it happened?:

Two
personnel of organic army from battalion 113/Jaya Sakti
Bireuen were attacked by unidentified persons. The two
were dead and their SS-1 rifles were taken away. |

The
battalion leader, Major Erda, claimed that GAM was not
involved in the attack, while Police Chief, Leut. Col.
Wanto Sumardi accused GAM was behind the attack. GAM
rejected the accusation and claimed not involved. |
 |
Immediately
after the attack, police conducted a search operation,
in which 166 houses belong to Keudèë Dua community
were burned down. In the havoc, Brimob (not the army)
shot dead two villagers: 1. Umar Sidi (50) and 2.
Rosmiati Lubis (57). They also killed two cows they
found grazing around. Seven people were tortured that
needed hospitalization, and 7 other villagers were taken
into police detention. |

The
atrocity was committed not only around the place where
the attack occurred but also in dowtown Bireuen (3 km
away) where Umar Sidi was shot dead and many others were
beaten with rifle butts and bajonettes. |
 |
In
Acheh, there is a bitter rivalry between non-organic
Brimob and organic (local) army that had claimed many
lives on both sides such as happened in Takengon, Banda
Acheh, Langsa, and Lhokseumawe. |

How has it happened?:
Sweeping to eliminate GAM
activists. A girl, Hendun Ibrahim (15), a boarding school
student, on her way home in that early morning, happened to
run into the secretly moving Indonesian troops. She was
abducted and interrogated to show them GAM HQ. Having no
answer, the girl’s mouth was stuffed with rifle barrel.
Although the girl begged not to be killed and screamed for
help, the troop blasted her mounth and then sprayed tens of
bullets in and around her genital area. Not far from the scene
stood a young boy, Sofyan Yusuf (17), sneaking at what the
army and Brimob have been doing. He was caught and then shot
dead.
In the barbaric military
operation the Indonesians also tortured scores of other
civilian. One of them was Marzuki (18) was twisted until one
of his hand was broken. A woman was shot in the hand

towards Alue Rangan and Peureulak in the west and did the same
thingsthere. People in this areas who have been informed about
what was happening in Langsa ware panicked and started moving

merchant. Unable to find him, the Brimob forcefully took away
his wife as well as a car (Escudo) and a Honda motorbike. His
daughter who then came to see what was happening was also
dragged into a car and taken away. The victims were released
later in the evening after GAM’s Joint Committee for
Security Modalities intervened.

How has it happened?:
Two REO trucks full of army
personnel were speeding on a highway and one of them slipped
into a ditch at a street curve. In the accident, an army
officer was killed (Second Leut. Erwin). Army personnel in the
other truck opened fire arbitrarily. A woman was fatally hit.
Injured soldiers were transported to nearby hospital. Shortly
after the accident, two ambulances passed the location from
Langsa to Bireuen. The enraged army opened fire at the
ambulances and critically injured two doctors and two
paramedics in the ambulances. In the aftermath, the army
burned down 45 houses to ash.
The Indonesian blamed GAM for
this accident. GAM rejected this unbased accusation.

How has it happened?:
15 trucks full with Indonesian
joint forces conducted an offensive military operation in the
villages. Some troops walked behind the trucks while singing
and opening fire randomly. When they reached Seuneubok Pidie
village, the Indonesians shot a junior high school student in
the back.
The Indonesian troops who have
been equipped with gasoline in their water cans started
burning houses and stores. They burned down 23 houses and
stores in Alue Nireh, 6 houses in Seuneubok Peusangan, and 13
houses and shops in Seuneubok Pidie.
The Indonesiana also robbed
money from Mr. Muladi Rp 2.8 million and from M. Saleh Rp 15
million.
This military action ended
with the abduction of two villagers who refused to give up
money. Their whereabouts are still unknown.

were on military operation to a house which they suspected to
belonged to a GAM activist. Unable to find out the suspect,
they grabbed another man they found in the house, Amin Yusuf
(30). The poor man was pushed to the ground and the
Indonesian, with full hatred, stepped on his head and all over
his body resulted in a swollen face, broken ribs and a broken
leg.
