  The incidents in Acheh take many different walks of life. Even women, who have nothing to do with politics, have to end their lives at the hand of Indonesian forces. Human rights groups see military at many occasions taking actions with having no standard constitutional order.

Seuleumak Muda vlg, Bagok, East Acheh

Army and Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) from Bagok HQs

Two AGAM personnel, who retreating to their base camp because of Moratorium on Violence has started, were ambushed by RI joint forces that were already waiting for them midway to GAM HQ. In this no contest action, the two were arrested and shot dead. Two pieces of guns and 7 12.7 Remington bullets were confiscated by the Indonesians. One gun was home made and the other one was FN pistol.

The dead victims:

  1. Idris Abubakar, 39, male
  2. Hasanuddin Ahmad, 30, male

Matang Seulemak vlg, Nurussalam, East Acheh

Brimob from Bagok HQ

In a sweep operation in the village, the victims:

  1. M. Ali, 18, male, resident of Matang Seulemak, Nurussalam
  2. Jumiah, 30, female, resident of Matang Seulemak, Nurussalam
  3. Mukhlis Yusuf, 35, male, resident of Seuleumak Muda, Bagok

Were severely tortured when interrogated in situ by Brimob. The reason for torture was that the victims were unable to give satisfactory answers about GAM whereabouts.

The victims are in critical condition and being hospitalized

Jeumpa vlg, Idi Rayeuk, East Acheh

Army and Brimob from Idi Rayeuk HQs

A dead body was found in the village. The victim was decapitated and mutilated. The victim, after being identified by his own family, was Mahmuddin Ali, 24, males, resident of Jeumpa vlg. He was arrested by RI joint forces in a sweep operation in Gunong Putoh vlg, Idi Rayeuk on Friday, Jan. 12th 2001.

Army (Siliwangi) from Trumon

The army launched a dawn raid to the village in which 3 villagers were unlawfully arrested. The victims:

  1. Basyarah
  2. Syafruddin
  3. Hafas

Victims # 1 and 2 have been released in the afternoon. Victim # 3 was still detained.

In the raid, the army also burned at least 3 houses. The owners of the houses:

  1. Tgk. Din
  2. Bang Ucok
  3. Syarifah (widowed)

Pu’uk vlg, Tanah Pasir, North Acheh

Army and Brimob from Tanah Pasir HQs

RI joint forces entered the village. The troops ordered all people to lie down on the ground. They started kicking and torturing some of the people. Two of the victims were finally shot. In the aftermath, the Indonesian troops ransacked and looted several houses

Manéë Kawa, Cot Kafi Raton, and Blang Tue villages, Seunuddon, North Acheh

Army and Brimob from Seunuddon HQs

The joint forces entered the villages. The Indonesian came house to house. They forced people to sign up a statement that says the community all agree on the placement of troops in the villages. The troops threatened people if they refused to sign then they would be listed in search list labeled GAM.

Brimob from Matangkuli HQ

Murthala Rasyid, 25, male, was praying in the mosque when the Brimobs came into the mosque and brutalized him on spot.

Brimob Banda Acheh

Sweeping in Lambhuk village. Two villagers are still missing after taken by Brimob. The victims were:

  1. Zulfikar, 30, male, from Panjo village, Baiturrahman, Banda Acheh
  2. Suwardi Adnan, 27, male, from Panjo village, Baiturrahman, Banda Acheh

Kampung Baro, Pidie

Brimob from Sigli HQ

Brimob entered Kampung Baro village. They searched many houses in the village. In one of the houses, the Brimob robbed one unit of boring machine belongs to Geusyik Idrus. The owner was accused being GAM activist.

Pereulak, East Acheh

Army and Brimob from Peureulak HQs

RI joint forces raided Julok, Kuta Binjei, Bagok, and Timbangan Peureulak to find GAM activists. No GAM activist was found. Instead, they harassed and scared villagers by accusing villagers being GAM activists, beating, and shooting in the air.

Babah Krueng, Sawang, North Acheh

Army and Brimob from Sawang and Nisam HQs

RI joint forces swept over Babah Krueng village, Lhok Kuyuen, Gle Dagang, and Cot Suwe village to find GAM activists. No GAM activist was found. Instead, they harassed and scared villagers by accusing villagers being GAM activists, beating, and shooting in the air.

Alue Bungkah village, Lhoksukon, North Acheh

Army and Brimob from Lhoksukon HQs

RI joint forces raided Alue Bungkah, Mns. Leupu, Blang Bidok, and Mns. Kuta to find GAM activists. No GAM activist was found. Instead, they harassed and scared villagers by shooting in the air
