RESIDENT TOLD AN NGO monitoring
group, the Public Opinion Team, that five trucks full of
Brimob forces, accompanied by an armoured personnel carrier,
arrived in the vicinity from the direction of Peulekung
village, Seunagan where they had been conducting an operation
to hunt members of GAM. The trucks were carrying thirty men
each.
When they reached the village of Suak Bilie, they started to
intimidate a number of men and women who were working in the
rice fields. When the troops started shoot in the air, the
villagers fled in fear, looking for protection.
Twenty villagers were arrested, made to stand in a row and
asked whether they were members of GAM or of GAM's women's
wing, Inoeng Balee. The villagers were struck with rifle
butts, kicked, punched and assaulted in the most sensitive
parts of the body. This maltreatment went on from 12.30 until
2.30 in the afternoon.
The troops then opened fire and five of the villagers were
killed. They were:
1. Muji Zulfaijir bin Anwar, born in 1982, just out of third
grade SMA, from Suak Bilie. One of his fingers had been ripped
off, and his body was covered in wounds after having been
dragged along an asphalt road.
2. Murtala, born in 1977, farmer from Suak Bilie. The victim's
skull had been broken, after being run over by one of the
Brimob trucks, and his brains had spilled onto the ground.
There were also four bullet wounds in his body.
3. Malikul Kamal, born in 1977, farmer from Suak Bilie. There
were found bullet wounds in his chest.
4. Bustami Arifin, born in 1977, farmer from Alue Kambuk.
There were four bullet wounds in his body. Shortly before the
incident, this victim had met the investigation team and told
them about the security situation in Suak Bilie village.
5. Supriyadi. S, born in1982, mechanic. His body was removed
by the Brimob and was later found in Meulaboh Hospital.
One woman and two men were wounded and traumatised by the
experience. One woman, Siti, had been thrown onto one of the
trucks but later taken off. Nawi 27, lost consciousness and
suffered from trauma. Leci, 30, also lost conscousness and
suffered from trauma.
